Yoga is finally coming back.
It has been on a 1-track journey in the West for many years, but it’s finally coming back to its roots. It’s exciting ya’ll!
While westernized yoga has isolated and prioritized the movement aspect of the practice (asana), this is, thankfully, starting to shift today. Folks are waking up to understanding yoga as a wholistic way of living. A set of tenets that guide our day to day life – not just a workout for a “yoga body”. A practice that allows us to connect deeply with ourselves – and with each other.
Because of this shift, the way we practice is also due for a refresh. The shape and tone of “classes” needs to evolve to support the wholistic nature of the practice.
Enter Intuitive Flow®.
This is a new way to engage with yoga asana. Forget doing yoga. This is about being yoga. It’s a moment for full, unreserved presence to yourself and to community. We are overdue to upgrade the way we share and practice yoga – including asana practice. As I honed this inspired way to flow, my hope is that this will grow as a format that creates more meaningful ripple effects in community. Yoga offers so much more depth than we typically realize in our current approaches. I’m excited to introduce an alternative that lets the spirit of yoga once again become the core focus of the practice.
So, what’s so good about this new format? Here’s the tea on Intuitive Flow:
It relies on community.
Here, everyone contributes to the flow. The session is less about an instructor offering a pre-determined sequence and more about leaning into guidance from spirit. Practicing this way reminds us of our power to influence those around us, as well as the influence others can have on us.
It deepens intuitive trust.
This practice requires deep presence, moment by moment. Instead of re-hashing familiar shapes and postures we are asked to listen to the guidance beyond the pose. We focus less on “perfecting” our form and more on being with what arises.
It’s fresh and fun.
While traditional yoga classes offer many benefits, it’s time for something new. This format brings an exciting element of surprise and intrigue. What message is here for me today? What does our community need right now? These explorations bring us into the present and give us a playful moment to balance between releasing the mind and staying in the body.
Sounds good, right? If you’re still curious about how an Intuitive Flow session rolls out, here’s a quick breakdown:
- First, the key thing to keep in mind is that this practice is about making space for intuition to guide.
- To start, yogis will get to choose a card from a diverse deck of yoga postures.
- Then, Joy sequences the flow on the spot, including each of the cards pulled. This is where the magic is revealed, live and unscripted.
- To close, yogis have time to reflect and share any insights with the circle.
